Happy Birthday Blayke!

Yesterday was my nephew Blaykes 8th Birthday. I remember the day he was born, going up to the hospital and meeting him for the first time...and now he is 8! And being 8 he is interested in all sorts of things I have no idea about, things like DragonballZ.

So I did my research...I googled "DragonballZ", hmmm what on earth can I do! Then I notice the actual balls where yellow with red stars, easy! I also wanted to make them a little more personalised so made some "B" for Blayke....although Blayke thought it was B for ball.

We had a great time celebrating and enjoying yummy cupcakes. I even had a mother from another party come up to me and ask where I got the cupcakes from I was very chuffed and replied "I made them!" If only I had a business card to pass on :o)

Oh and they where chocolate with vanilla American buttercream, as requested!

Salted Caramel...Say What!

Yes people you heard right...caramel and salt! This sort of flavour is becoming very "in vogue" just like chocolate and chili.

I am loving being able to experiment with new flavours...and as noice as they are chocolate and vanilla are BORING!

You bite into the soft cake and bettercream and then the ever so slight salt hit and POP, it's so cool! It just cuts through the sweetness and gives you a real zing, amazingly bringing out that beautiful caramel flavour. And the huge hunk of goey caramel in the centre sure helps too...

If you look really closely at the photo above you may be able to see a few specks of salt.

Happy 60th Birthday..

My mother in-law called last week and asked if I could make her friend Michelle some cupcakes for her 60th Birthday.

Of course I said yes! And got free creative range, I thought these looked to be Michelle's style.

Va va voom Vanilla, and they went down a treat! Michelle asked if I had thought about opening a business, my reply...Ummm only constantly, haha!

Doodlebug!

I totally forgot to post about these cupcakes I made last month for my sister in-laws baby shower.

They where Lemon Cupcakes with Lemon cream cheese frosting.

And topped with handmade fondant toppers, the D stands for the new baby's name but I like to call him doodlebug!

He made his entrance into the world on Tuesday the 23rd of March and is making me cluckier then ever!

P.S. Excuse my crappy photos, I am hoping to do something about that really soon....
